Must have a high school diploma or equivalent; at least 18 years of age. Must pass background check and DOT drug & alcohol screening. This position qualifies for Veteran’s Preference. SEASONAL SPRAY OPERATOR/EQUIPMENT OPERATOR II JOB DESCRIPTION
NATURE OF WORK
This is a seasonal related position where the employee will work with direct supervision of the Weed Superintendent and the Roads Superintendent in the performance of daily weed and road operations.
Seasonal Spray Operators’ duties include the safe and efficient operation of vehicles, utv’s, and various spray equipment.
The Equipment Operator II position duties include the safe and efficient operation of heavy construction equipment. Employees may perform general laboring duties on a variety of construction type activities as well as manual road maintenance activities.
This is a combined position that will require skilled work in the mixing, loading, and application of chemicals. Operation of heavy road construction equipment, and general labor to perform general
bridge construction, sign repairs and may require general road maintenance duties such as cutting brush and trees, repairing asphalt and concrete surfaces.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Operation of 4-wheel drive trucks and equipment used for spraying. Ability to mix chemicals, use backpack and pick-up sprayers, daily maintenance of equipment, trucks, and utv’s.
Operate heavy trucks hauling rock, dirt, gravel and related construction and road materials including water, snow, sand, salt and debris; operate front-end loaders to load trucks or create stockpiles of rock, dirt, gravel, salt/sand mixtures, snow, debris and construction or work site materials.
Operate all types of rotary mowers when mowing grasses and weeds on County right of ways and intersections.
General bridge construction duties include repairing and maintaining bridges and culverts, removing, and replacing damaged signs and posts.
Perform general laboring duties in connection with assigned projects. Perform routine preventive maintenance on equipment operated including checking and changing oil filters and oil, fueling, and washing equipment, checking other fluid levels lubricating, inspecting, and changing tires, and related maintenance work.
Complete daily logs and reports noting maintenance performed, materials used and/or tasks completed; maintain shop area and shop equipment; monitor ongoing weed and road conditions within the County; attend routine safety and staff meetings as required.
DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGES, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS
Knowledge of common weeds and have the ability to distinguish noxious weeds. Be able to use responsible judgement in all situations. Be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather and conditions. Be willing to comply with all pesticide application regulations. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of heavy construction equipment. The ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; to plan and complete assigned tasks with a minimum of supervision and guidance; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Completion of high school and some experience in the operation of heavy construction and maintenance equipment or any equivalent combination of the training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge for this position.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees will need a current Class O driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Employees will have 6-months to complete requirements for a Nebraska Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B. If after 6 months, employees who have not secured a CDL to drive vehicles that require a CDL, can be terminated.
May require a Nebraska Certified Pesticide Applicator License.
Must have regular attendance and be punctual.
Must have the ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
Must have the ability to work at a job site, work indoors or outdoors in any type of weather.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS
Workers must wear good strong type of footwear, over the ankle boot or high-top shoes plus socks. A long-sleeved shirt must be worn. All required personal protective equipment shown on the chemical label to be worn during application. A cap with a bill must be worn to protect the head. Approved chemical gloves must be worn while mixing and applying chemicals. Chemical gloves, hard hats and goggles will be provided by Weed Control.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Will be required to pass NIMS (National Incident Management System) training and all assigned training.
