Scotts Bluff County Assessor’s Office is accepting applications an Assessment Technician. Work involves processing personal property filings, homestead exemption filings, performing general reception and clerical tasks. Other duties include assisting administration with taxpayer protests; researching real property location and ownership; and maintaining public records. Occasional outdoor field work. Applicants must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience in general clerical reception work, real estate work, appraisal work or any equivalent combination of training and experience helpful. Must be able to pass a background check and possess a valid State of Nebraska driver’s license. Position qualifies for Veterans’ Preference. Scotts Bluff County is an EEO/AA employer.

ASSESSMENT TECHNICIAN JOB DESCRIPTION

NATURE OF WORK

This is responsible clerical work documenting and processing public real estate taxes.

Work involves processing personal property filings, homestead exemption filings and performing general reception and clerical tasks. This includes assisting administration with taxpayer protests; researching real property location and ownership; and maintaining public records.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED

Notify and assist the public in processing personal property, real estate, and homestead exemption filings; compile list of exempt property for publication; assist mobile homeowners in filing property ownership/transfer applications; determine and collect appropriate fees for clerical services; process incoming mail, obtaining and forwarding requested information; screen and forward incoming telephone calls providing direct assistance when possible.

Perform data entry on computer terminal; assist administration with taxpayer protest hearings; research real property location, ownership, and assessment information; maintain public record personal property records including performing physical and computerized filing tasks.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with property owners, other employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to maintain written and computerized records.
  • Ability to interact tactfully and courteously with the general public under adverse circumstances.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer terminal, calculator, digital camera, data scanner and other common office equipment.
  • Knowledge of modern office equipment, protocols, and practices, including common software applications.
  • Ability to prioritize work assignments and complete work per identified timelines.
  • Ability to research, file and maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to read, interpret and follow detailed instructions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Graduation from a senior high school or equivalent with some experience in general clerical, reception work, real estate work, appraisal work or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the desirable knowledge, abilities, and skills.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Possession of a valid State of Nebraska driver’s license.
  • Will be required to pass NIMS (National Incident Management System) training.
  • Complete all assigned training.
